Today I went out kiting again, normally I try to be super safe but this time it was unavoidable.
When I arrived at the beach this guy came up to me saying that it wasnt safe and that he thought a storm might come because of the dark clouds up ahead. I replied with "oh shit well I will wait and see what happens then here on the beach". He kept on talking about how dangerous it was and how someone had died here 2 years ago. I got the feeling he was exagerating to scare me away. But well I didnt want to take the risk of him being right and then getting stuck in a really gusty storm with high waves and smack onto the rocky beach (spoilers)
So I decided to wait an hour and to see if the sky would clear up a bit, and to see if other kitesurfers would come. Because the most dangerous part of kitesurfing is launching and landing the kite since you cant really do it on your own and dont want to be stuck to a kite when it gets really windy
After an hour it did clear up, and another kitesurfer had shown up. So I decided to go in.
Its always really hard to kitesurf here this is because there are huge waves and my board is extremly old and isnt designed to go upwind. So I get smacked in the face a whole lot by waves and then have to swim and find my board again.
Another problem is the tide, when the tide is in you have a very rocky beach wich waves try to slam you into, and when the tide is out you have to walk a whole lot in shallow water wich is rushing back into sea accompanied by lots of rocks wich smash into your feet.
My injury also happend due to the low tide. I was kiting 20 meters away from the beach and suddenly the water wasnt deep enough anymore to kite in so I flew of and slammed into a few rocks.
